Playstation 3 Sales in the UK Pass 5 Million

Rejoice, PS3 fans! The console has passed the 5 million mark in the UK. The system which launched a whole year after its biggest competitor in the Xbox 360, was lacking in the sales department for many years, in comparison to Microsoft’s black box. Recently, it has seen a big worldwide surge and this announcement is a mark of that.

On this milestone, VP and Managing Director UK & Ireland Fergal Gara said, “This is another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something I’m incredibly proud of. I’d like to thank all our consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for helping us achieve this figure, and look forward to continued success.” 

The release of these figures is very timely as tomorrow marks the arrival of the SuperSlim PS3. The smaller and lighter system will be available in two different models; 500 GB and 12 GB. Time will tell whether the release of the re-designed PlayStation 3 will be able to battle the forthcoming Wii U, but it’s still clever from Sony to try and put something up against the new boy.
