First Wave of Steam Greenlight Titles coming from ValveValve have happily announced that the first fruits of the new project entitled Steam Greenlight system on Steam for Indie Games are being readied to be released to the marketplace. The first ten games to have been voted for and approved for release via Steam by the general public will be released over the next few months – as some are still in Beta, or the final stages of development, whereas others are ready to go.

For those who are uninitiated with the new scheme, Steam Greenlight is a new project whereby the very vocal Steam community helpin the process of selecting games that are good enough to be published on Steam.

Developers and Publishers can post images, videos and details of their proposed games onto Steam for review, in the hopes of convincing the Community to vote for their title to receive a digital retail release.

Anna Sweet of Valve comments that; “The Steam community rallied around these titles and made them the clear choice for the first set of titles to launch out of Greenlight… Since launch, hundreds of titles have been submitted, with more coming in every day. We expect to be announcing more titles coming to Steam via Greenlight soon.”

The first ten titles emerging from Project Greenlight are:

  • Black Mesa
  • Cry of Fear
  • Dream
  • Heroes & Generals
  • Kenshi
  • McPixel
  • No More Room in Hell
  • Project Zomboid
  • Routine
  • Towns

This is an exciting time for both Indie developers and fans, as they can work together to ensure that the games the players want to play are actually released. Stay tuned for the GodisaGeek.com review of McPixel on iOS as part of Mobile Monday, this coming Monday.

Steam Project Greenlight launched on August 30th.
