New Resident Evil 6 Demo Available September 18th
Despite Resident Evil 6 splitting opinion since its announcement thanks to a decidedly action-oriented direction, anticipation for the latest instalment of Capcom’s seminal horror franchise is at an all-time high – and rightly so. As our recent preview showed, this is the most ambitious Resi title yet and Capcom are really attempting to push the boundaries of what has gone before.
On September 18th the brand new public demo will go live, giving you the chance to dive into the unenviable shoes of the six playable characters and run through a small section of each of the three campaigns, either alone or in an online co-op mode. Each plays very differently and Capcom have taken pains to present three diverse yet equally-compelling narratives.
Playing as series poster-boy Leon S. Kennedy or new girl Helena Harper provides the experience most similar to “classic Resident Evil”, demanding that you conserve ammo and take your time, while strapping on the big-boy boots of franchise mainstay Chris Redfield or partner Piers Nivens thrusts you into a frantic third-person shooter on the streets of Edonia. Or if you fancy something a little more fraught and desperate, you may opt to play as Jake Wesker or Shelly Birkin and fight your way through the horde of mutated J’avo that have overrun Lanshiang. Just be prepared to jump like a frightened little girl occasionally.
Additionally, there’s good news for PS3 owners who bought Capcom’s fantasy RPG Dragon’s Dogma, as the special demo previously only available to Xbox 360 owners will be downloadable from September 5th – though to access it you’ll need to obtain the token from the Dragon’s Dogma main menu. The content in each demo is totally different, so it’s worth grabbing both if you can.
Resident Evil 6 is due for release in Europe and North America on October 2nd.
