Broken Sword 5 Kickstarter Reaches Goal after only 13 Days.Revolution Software has happily announced that their Kickstarter project for the funding of their in-development game – Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse – has reached its funding target already.

The project was aiming to reach $400,000 in the 30-day time limit, and currently stands at $424,914, with sixteen days remaining. This means that the game will definitely be self-published by Revolution now, but it also means that should they receive a good deal of additional funding, there will be some additions and stretch goals added into the equation too. It is great to hear confirmation that this fantastic series will be able to carry on, and without having to play to the whims of an external publisher – but to the fans who have backed it.

Charles Cecil, managing director at Revolution Software stated that; “To reach our target in just 13 days is incredible… The generosity of fans and supporters, both in terms of money pledged and the passion that they have displayed on the forums, is absolutely overwhelming. I would like to thank each and every person who has taken the time and trouble to pledge their support – and promise that the game we create will reward their faith”

“What’s so exciting is that we’ve still got 16 days to go. So we are in the fantastic position of being able to define ‘stretch goals’ which, if achieved, would allow us to realize our wildest ambitions. Stretch goals will include gameplay that had previously ended up on the cutting room floor, exotic new locations to explore, extra characters – some of which will be familiar – as well as a big surprise.”

The team have also added that they will be creating extra reward tiers in Kickstarter, for those who may have already pledged and wish to up their amount for greater rewards, but more importantly, Revolution can now confirm that the game will be translated into Spanish and Italian, as well as the previously-announced English, French and German languages.

We can’t wait to see more footage and images from the game, as the Broken Sword series are some of the finest Adventure Games ever made. It will be interesting to see whether additional funding will also lead to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN releases of the game, as these were mooted early on in the process – but we will have to wait and see about that one.

Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse will be released during the first quarter of 2013 for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android devices – all going well. Console versions are a possibility, but Revolution cannot confirm that at present. Why not check out their Kickstarter project here.
