UK-Retailers-Suffer-Lowest-Software-Sales-Since-Records-BeganThe UK high street generated just £8.4 million from videogame sales last week, setting an all time low.

The numbers provided by UKIE Chart-Track, state 394,688 games were sold at retail last week.

The long console life-cycles have been blamed by many, including developers and publishers, for the steady dip in sales. The economic downturn has no doubt played a part as well, with people simply unwilling to drop £40 at a time for the latest release.

Obviously digital sales don’t count towards these numbers and the popularity of free-to-play games continues to grow. Mobile and social gaming has also grown significantly in the last few years.

Are you buying less games now compared to three years ago, if so, why? Would new consoles have you parting with more cash?
