While this information doesn’t actually reveal anything concrete as to what the device will be, General Manager for Microsoft, Brian Hall, has acknowledged what we all knew in an interview with The Verge, the next Xbox console is coming.
Talking mainly about their e-mail client Outlook Express, Hall discussed how they would be bringing Exchange, Outlook and Hotmail together:
We’ve had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about sixteen years, we obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8 with the new version of Office with the New Windows phone and the new Xbox.
You can hear this for yourself at the one minute seventeen seconds mark in the video below:
It’s not huge surprise, we all knew it was coming and after the Microsoft Surface and Xbox SmartGlass announcements, it was a fair assumption to think that there will be some form of integration going on between all devices.
Before people get too excited though, it’s worth remembering that Brian Hall is a General Manager working on Outlook, SkyDrive, IE, and Windows app partnerships, he doesn’t appear to work on anything directly related to Xbox or Xbox 360 and this may just be an assumption on his part. That said, he previously worked on Windows LIVE, so who knows?
