Peter Molyneux’s First Experiment Offers £50,000 DLC
Yes that’s right, Curiosity the first experiment to come out of Peter Molyneux’s new studio 22 Cans, will offer optional DLC costing £50,000.
If you’re unaware Molyneux’s newly formed studio 22 Cans aims to release a series of what they call experiments, each experiment will focus on different areas of human behavior.
Curiosity will contain one single Cube and anyone in the world will be able to download the experiment and chip away at the cube to see what’s inside. The catch, only one person will get to see what the cube contains.
Players will use chisels to slowly wear the cube down causing fractures, stronger chisels will be available for 59p and will provide 10x the power. However if you’re feeling extravagant a single diamond chisel (that’s 100,000x more powerful) will be made available for £50,000.
Speaking to New Scientist, Molyneux had this to say regarding the DLC and the experiment as a whole:
It’s an insane amount of money,” Molyneux told New Scientist. “This is not a money-making exercise; it is a test about the psychology of monetisation.
The point of the experiment is to record and study how news of what’s inside spreads across social media in an attempt to explore the psychology of social media users. We will rely entirely on social media. How will [the person who claims the prize] prove it? That in itself becomes a fascinating aspect of this experiment.
Say what you want about Peter Molyneux but predictable he most certainly is not. Will you be picking up Curiosity when it releases, could you even be the one to pick up the diamond pickaxe?
Curiosity is set to release on PC and mobile devices soon.
