New Super Mario Bros. 2 Confirmed

Nintendo have today revealed that the previously unannounced 2D Mario game for the 3DS is in fact, New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Gametrailers along with numerous other US sites have reported that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed the new Mario game at a Nintendo Direct presentation event. Barely any details were given apart from news that the Power Leaf, Tanooki Suit, and Luigi will all be making an appearance in the game. Of course you would expect Mario’s brother Luigi to be in a game titled Super Mario Bros, but that’s beside the point.

As I said Nintendo are keeping their cards close to their chest on this one, a few screenshots have been released which can be found below.

The original New Super Mario Bros. on the DS sold an absolutely astonishing 28 million units, so the sky really is the limit for its upcoming 3DS successor. Hopefully Nintendo will release more information regarding the game during E3 this June.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released in August 2012 in Japan, US and Europe.
