Classic Adventure The Last Express Coming to iOS
Jordan Mechner, the man who created the fantastically popular Prince of Persia series and penned the film of the same name, has revelaed that one of his lost gems – 1997 Adventure Game The Last Express – is currently undergoing a conversion for an impending iOS re-release. The French company DotEmu are working on altering the game from its original PC format to fit onto Apple devices, and they have experience with the game, having already put together the recent downloadable release of the game.
No real details have been announced as of yet, but Mechner did let slip that the title is being optimsied with new features that will make the game more compatible with iOS devices and their interfaces. The game is a bit of a diamond in the rough – having cost huge amounts to make, but suffering a non-existant marketing campaign when it was first released – it fell into obscurity somewhat. The game picked up some steam via word of mouth and became a cult classic, however it was always a hard title to get hold of and never made any real dent in the sales charts.
Hopefully with this iOS re-release the murder-mystery thriller – set on board the Orient Express in the run-up to World War One – will gain a whole new audience of fans and achieve the success it throughly deserved. The characters, script and setting are all a joy to behold, and it will be quite an experience playing through the real-time investigation once again – in an all-new format. The art style alone is enough to warrant a look from gamers – featuring a rotoscoped film style, which although very costly to make, did produce some stunning results. Certainly one to look out for in the coming months, for Adventure Game fans, mystery fans and historians alike.
