Xbox 360 6th December Update Detailed
Tomorrow, 6th December, marks the launch of a brand new Xbox 360 experience via the updated dashboard and the ability to control all your content on the 360 via your voice and the brand new Xbox Live Companion app on Windows Phone. After announcing the date, we have some concrete details.
Bing – Microsoft’s search engine – will be an integral part in the update as through Bing and Kinect, you can navigate your 360 console and also find the games, movies, TV shows and music you want whilst also discovering the best offerings on Xbox LIVE. The Windows Phone app will allow the user to; “find, learn more about and control content from popular entertainment services on Xbox LIVE and Xbox LIVE Marketplace”.
Whilst the PS3 may have been everyone’s multimedia console of choice because of Netflix in the US, BBC iPlayer in the UK and other features that transformed Sony’s box into more than a games device, Microsoft are changing that. With this update;
“TV and movie fans can instantly stream live television via our current UK TV partner, Sky, as well as enjoy a variety of fantastic content from the likes of AlloCiné (Screenrush), blinkbox, Channel 4, Channel 5, Crackle, Dailymotion, LOVEFiLM, MSN Video, MUZU.TV, YouTube and Zune, as well as, in 2012, the BBC.”
Microsoft already have the Sky and Zune video apps in the UK but are building on this massively with this update and in early 2012. Check out the full list of entertainment apps coming to the Xbox 360 worldwide.
