Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 Confirmed...Wii Version Ain't HappeningSome rabid fans have been waiting a long time for this announcement, but finally it has been definitely confirmed that 2012 will see the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2.

Sonic 4: Episode 1 came out all the way back in October of 2010 and was pretty well received. The majority of sonic fanboys were happy to see the return to 2D gameplay for the spikey one. In a recent interview with Gamespot, Digital Brand Manager at Sega, Ken Balough, announced the game and some new additions for fans to get giddy about it.

First of all, Miles “Tails” Prower will make his return in the form of a playable character. Not to be outfoxed by the…eh, fox…Metal Sonic will be coming back to the series as Sonic’s main nemesis. In his interview with Gamespot, Ken Balough said there is a, “brand new graphics engine and brand new physics engine”, so hopefully it’ll feel a little bit more Mega Drive this time. It has been confirmed that it will appear on multiple platforms such as, Xbox 360, PS3, iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Android…and not on Nintendo Wii.

SEGA confirmed today that Nintendo players won’t get a chance to play Sonic 4: Episode 2. Plumbers & hedgehogs don’t mix I s’pose. Here’s what Ken Balough had to say on the matter;

“The reason Episode I was on the Wii was because we wanted to bring the Sonic 4 saga to the widest possible audience…Episode II unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii — for reasons most people have probably guessed, but that doesn’t mean that SEGA isn’t supporting Nintendo platforms, we have a very strong partnership and will continue to do so.”

After Sonic Generations – the best Sonic game for years in my opinion (though the 3DS version isn’t as good, sadly) – SEGA’s mascot is getting an Indian Summer of sorts. But, reasons we have guessed? Is this the HD train rolling over Nintendo again? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
