F1 2011 – New Handling and A.I Developer Diary

by on August 16, 2011

Codemasters have just released part two of their developer diary for F1 2011 on their Facebook page over at http://www.facebook.com/formula1game. The video details the amazing work that they have put into making this the most realistic F1 simulation that ever existed. It appears that with the ground work set in the phenomenal F1 2010 last year, that this years iteration has enabled them to get things near on perfect in terms of handling. Allowing you to be as aggressive or smooth a driver as you want to be.

AI is now more adaptable and aware of their surroundings instead of being committed to one course action, allowing more diversity in those intense races. More importantly they are more aware of you as a racer and are less likely to take on a reckless chance if they are committed to a manoeuvre and it becomes too dangerous. Of course the degree to which this happens will still depend on the driver you are up against.

“The easiest way to look at the AI this time around is that they’re more dynamic in their decisions,” said Paul Jeal. “In F1 2010 they would often make the right decision but then that situation would change and they were committed to a course of action.  In F1 2011 they’re aware of all the variables, all the surroundings and they’re able to adapt their responses on the fly.”  Stephen Hood added: “It’s about them being in synch with the player, following the rhythm of the race.”

With everything being tweaked to the max, we are of no doubt that this will be a must have for racing fanatics and general F1 fans alike.
