[CLOSED] SplitReason.com Competition Winners Announced

by on March 25, 2011

In case you weren’t aware, we recently ran a competition in conjunction with SplitReason.com, whereby you could win one of three items of Gaming related clothing, which were all rather spiffing, by telling us all about your favourite game of all time.

Well, the time has come to announce the winners!

The first runner up, winning the “Mr Rage Quit” t-shirt, was Rachel Titley, who entered via Facebook. Rachel picked World of Warcraft as her favourite game of all time:

“My favourite game of all time has to be World of Warcraft because of the social aspect, the way you can get so immersed that it takes over your life…. and that is also why I gave it up!”

Our next runner up, winning the “Portaloo” t-shirt, was Martin Kerry, who chose The Orange Box as his favourite game, and won us over with his charming Portal related entry:

It has to be the Orange Box. Why? Well, that’s the puzzle, isn’t it? If I tell you, will you understand or will you be thrown into another dimension of confusion? Can you leave your relaxation vault and get over the lateral velocity of this email for just long enough to figure it out? Can I hint at the direction you should take to reach the room of my mind that contains the answer? Do you have the counter-logic skills to figure out that should I be lucky enough to be awarded a runner-up prize, I would like the Portaloo t-shirt? I would be so GLaDOS to receive it as it depicts yet another use for the Portal Gun….if you’re fast enough. I’ve already been disappointed this week by discovering that cake is a lie. Don’t disappoint me further.

So that leaves us with the grand prize winner, Martin Toone!

Martin’s entry was a bit special, and we felt he absolutely deserved the grand prize with this entry:

This is an extremely difficult question to answer, 21 years alive, thousands of hours of gaming across multiple platforms and genres, and I have to whittle this list down to one. I say impossible. First off I had to define what terms I would use to consider my “favourite”. I decided to pick a game which at the original time of playing offered countless avenues for fun, whilst simultaneously having, to my mind, zero faults. Many games have dominated my life, for example the Pokemon series or the Civilization series, but these games failed on the above criteria. In these modern times there is no genre more popular and approachable than the 3D third-person sandbox adventure game and there is no games developer better at this than Rockstar. Some may cite Bethesda however I’d argue New Vegas put them out of contention with it’s numerous bugs and gameplay issues. Unsurprisingly therefore it stands to reason to pick the best game created by Rockstar, however surprisingly I’m not going to choose any of the Grand Theft Auto series. Drum roll please, as I announce my favourite video game of all time:

Canis Canem Edit AKA Bully.

This game had everything Rockstar has become famous for, a beautiful soundtrack and voice acting, a protagonist chock full of personality who is both relatable and a total d-bag, supporting characters who are insane and mental in equal measure, a gloriously designed 3D world to explore which made the Mona Lisa look like a doodle, and the irrelevant side quests which eat up hours of time without your objection. Collect 75 rubber bands? Why not?, sounds like a hoot. On top of all of this however the game was original. Transported into a world no other game had dared breach, a private boarding school as seen through the eyes of a socially awkward and sociopathic teenage boy. Delicious. Partaking in activities no other game would consider wasting their time on, stuffing people in lockers, and pinching girls bottoms and topping the whole day off with a game of dodgeball. Yet somehow this wonderfully weird eclectic mix of game elements fused to create one thoroughly enjoyable experience. The greatest modern tragedy is that as yet no sequel has been considered.

“Who’s the man? Me. Jimmy Hopkins”.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone else for the mountain of entries! Stay tuned to GodisaGeek for more competitions, and of course, the latest news, reviews, previews and gaming features!
