Splinter Cell: Conviction Preview Event

by on April 12, 2010

Above HMV on Reading High Street there’s a dark room full of leather sofas, Xbox 360’s and widescreen LCD’s – they call it Gamerbase, Reading. Ubisoft hosted a very interesting Splinter Cell: Conviction event there last week and, earlier in the week, we offered you guys the chance to win tickets to this event. Anyway, we went along and got the chance to play Sam Fisher’s latest outing way before its official release date.

Without spoilers, I’ll try and give a brief introduction to what we saw on the night. Splinter Cell: Conviction is much of what we’re used to from the Splinter Cell series but with a bit of a twist. I’m sure most people are aware of by now what that is but I won’t mention it, just incase. The game relies even more heavily on stealth aspects than it ever has before and I’m sure I wouldn’t get much argument for believing it’s quite a bit harder. We had the chance to play through the first two chapters of the single player and co-op modes, as well as try out the multiplayer options.  I have to say, the co-op is brilliant – it just blew my original expectations away. When you need a break from that hard part in the single player, where you keep getting spotted, you can play a bit of wave mode (takes inspiration from Gears of War 2’s horde mode) to get the adrenaline pumping again. We’re looking forward to reviewing this game for your guys very soon (keep an eye out for that) but for now, we leave you with a one-word review…..excellent!

Of course we’ll try and let you guys know about any more of these kind of events that come along, so check back for that. The Ubisoft PR team really know how to throw a preview event (cheers Pete!), with a large screen and Xbox 360 each, we were able to test system link to its full extent. Oh and free pizza always puts a PR team in our good books. 😉

Splinter Cell: Conviction is out everywhere, now. We’ve found it for only £29.71 at Amazon UK!
