Riot has today released the schedules for the EU and NA branches of the LCS for the upcoming season.
Week one, day one for Europe kicks off on Thursday January 22nd when Alliance will take on Fnatic in the first game of the new season. The first day will also see the mouthwatering clash between SK Gaming and Roccat, two teams who have the potential to do very well this year.
The North American LCS season starts a few days later on Saturday January 24th, with Team SoloMid taking on Cloud 9 in the first match. You can see the schedules on the LoLeSports.com schedule page.
The new LCS season is also bringing in some slight format changes. Again LoLeSports.com have a much more detailed run down but the basic points are:
- The 10th place LCS will be relegated to the challenger series and the top team in the challenger series will be promoted.
- Teams who place in 8th and 9th in LCS will play against the teams who places 2nd and 3rd in the challenger series to determine who is in the LCS and who is in the challenger series for the next season.
- LCS teams will gain points based on their performance in the playoffs. These points will be used to determine seeding for Worlds and Regional Qualifiers.
- The winner of the Summer Split and the team with the most points will both qualify for Worlds.
