Yoshi’s New Island EU Release Date Confirmed

Yoshi’s New Island will release in EU territories on March 14th 2014, the same day the game launches in America.

As we’ve seen in previous footage, Yoshi’s New Island remains largely faithful to the Super Nintendo outing for the dino, only it’s embellished with the odd screen filling egg.

Interestingly the PR we received specifically refers to the game as the sequel to the Super Nintendo game, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, rather than dubbing it the third entry in the franchise.

Presumably Artoon’s Yoshi’s Island DS has been stricken from canon.

Well, no, but it certainly feels as if Nintendo are trying to assert that Yoshi’s New Island is a return to the solo baby mechanics, and single screen gameplay, of the original adventure for Mario’s jade steed, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

What’s more, resident of the UK that pre-order the title from GAME will get a cute egg-shaped game case along with their copy of Yoshi’s New Island. Nice.

Not long to wait, then, until we find out where on the hierarchy of 3DS platformers Yoshi will enter at. Personally, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sits at the top of the pile, and Yoshi’s New Island is going to have to be blummin’ spectacular to top that…
