Valve have announced that they are adding a way for Steam users to share the contents of their games library with other people that use their system.
It all works when the host designated a ‘shared computer’ this computer can then access the shared profile’s games, no matter who is signed in.
If said host account then signs in elsewhere and wants to play the game you’re currently ‘borrowing’, then you will be given a warning and a window to buy the game before you’re kicked off.
The account can be shared with up to ten devices, but apprently the library can only be accessed by one account at a time.
“Our customers have expressed a desire to share their digital games among friends and family members, just as current retail games, books, DVDs, and other physical media can be shared,” explained Anna Sweet of Valve. “Family Sharing was created in direct response to these user requests.”
To register for the scheme, which goes into Beta next week, join the Family Sharing Group on the Steam community.
