Nintendo sold only 55,000 Wii U consoles in the US last month.
The result is especially disastrous for the company as January’s NPD sales figures covered a five week period.
An additional “leap week” is included by NPD every few years “in order to preserve the seasonal integrity of the months”. Whatever that means.
January is typically a bad month for everyone but it is only the third month of sale for the new console.
To compare, the Xbox 360 shifted 281,000 units and the PS Vita sold 35,000. PS3 sales aren’t yet known.
