Epic have announced the closure of their newest development studio, Impossible Studios, saying “it just wasn’t working out.”
Impossible Studios is primarily made up of former staff-members from Big Huge Games, the Maryland-based studio behind ill-fated RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. In August of last year, Impossible took the reins on the development of Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the next instalment in Epic’s hugely popular iPhone RPG series.
But now, according to a report by IGN.com, Epic have closed Impossible Studios – though few details have been divulged as to why, with Epic’s founder Tim Sweeney only saying that “despite a gallant effort from Impossible, it just wasn’t working out for Epic”.
The staff at Impossible Studios have been given 3 months severance pay and the opportunity to carry on as an indie studio using the logo and company name, so there may be hop for them yet. The fate of Infinity Blade: Dungeons, however, is yet to be decided while Epic figure out the best way to proceed.
We wish the best of luck to all the staff members at Impossible Studios.
