At a recent press event in North America, press were given a first look at Bungie’s new game: Destiny (though no gameplay was shown). As usual, the assets have been released, fans have pored over every aspect and hype is through the roof.
But calming down for a moment, we’ve got the ViDoc for you to enjoy, where the guys at Bungie talk us through the game, what it’s about, what they are going for, and much more. It seems that the console version will require an always-on connection (which isn’t as big a deal as it sounds), and given that it appears to be going for a massive online world, that isn’t too big a surprise.
Bungie released the following information via their forums:
Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. It sparked a Golden Age when our civilization spanned our solar system, but it didn’t last. Something hit us, knocked us down. The survivors built a city beneath the Traveler, and have begun to explore our old worlds, only to find them filled with deadly foes.
You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield incredible power. Defend the City. Defeat our enemies. Reclaim all that we have lost.
Key features:
- The next evolution of entertainment – an incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customized weapons, gear and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, combined with public and social activities.
It does look pretty gorgeous, too, some of the concept art is great – so let’s hope the game lives up to all this early hype. No PC release has currently been announced, but so far it’s coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and (we presume) next-gen consoles. You can check out a load of images over at Bungie’s Destiny official site, here.
Update:Â Activision have sent us over a mountain of new assets, which you can see in the gallery below. Most of them are from the Bungie offices, but there’s some concept art too.
