EA and Bioware Officially Confirm Dragon Age 3: Inquisition

EA and Bioware Officially Confirm Dragon Age 3: InquisitionAfter the huge success of Dragon Age: Origins and its opinion-splitting, subtitle-less sequel, developers Bioware are taking us back to war-torn Thedas with Dragon Age: Inquisition, the third full game in their fantasy RPG series.

Although story details are thin on the ground the suffix Inquisition leads us to speculate that there may be a new protagonist once again, possibly working with the Chantry (Dragon Age’s all-female version of the church) and the titular Inquisition to track down Origins’ Grey Warden (if you left him / her alive, of course) and Dragon Age 2’s Champion of Kirkwall, Hawke.

Choices made throughout the first two games will almost certainly have a major impact on events here, and it may not be too fantastical to suggest that the new protagonist could be female or bust, given that it’s the Chantry looking for the last two protagonists – not to mention the popularity of “FemShep” in EA and Bioware’s epic Mass Effect trilogy.

Of course, this is purely speculation – all that we know for sure is that Dragon Age 3 will run on Dice’s Frostbite 2 engine (as seen in all its glorious splendour in Battlefield 3) and that Bioware have been working on it for almost two years, listening and reacting to rather expressive player feedback (they received some fan-venom over certain design choices in the sequel, most notably involving the “dumbed-down” combat) to “give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”

That’s a direct quote from Bioware Edmonton’s General Manager Aaron Flynn, and bodes well for the highly-anticipated threequel. More info as soon as we have it.

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is being published by EA and in development at Bioware Edmonton. It is currently expected to launch late in 2013.
