Twisted Pixel Unveil “The Gunstringer” For Xbox 360 Kinect
We at GodisaGeek are big fans of Twisted Pixel, as you can tell from our review of Comic Jumper and the Q&A we did with them not that long ago.
Keen on innovation, it should come as no surprise that they are one of the first indie devs to announce a Kinect title, in the form of this excellent looking title “The Gunstringer
We thought it was best to let Twisted Pixel themselves tell you about the title, so we’ll leave it to Dan Teasdale, lead designer on the title.
“The Gunstringer is a Kinect game where you get to marionette a kick-ass undead cowboy puppet through action packed stage performances. Everything is set as if it’s an actual play performance, complete with hand crafted “actors” and props.
Through a bunch of on stage performances, you get to marionette the Gunstringer through an awesome western themed revenge story filled with action, drama, and mildly creepy puppet love. Having being raised from the dead by an invisible string-pulling force, the Gunstringer has only one goal – to seek revenge on the rag-tag posse that put him underground in the first place.
While we do take cues from the classics like Sergio Leone’s iconic spaghetti westerns, this isn’t a “straight” western revenge story. Being able to perform this story with puppets and stage props lets us get away with some pretty far out characters, settings, and plot twists that would just seem insane in a straight western story.
The Gunstringer marries all of this with really fresh and fun gameplay mechanics. From the start of this project, we’ve focused on getting across the feel of marionetting a puppet’s movement through a 3D world, then mixing that with the fun and mayhem of targeting-focused shooters like Rez. One minute you’ll be navigating the Gunstringer over tricky ravines or towards secret paths, the next you’ll be ducking behind cover to take out a half-dozen clockwork alligators with your six shooter.
As you may have already gathered, The Gunstringer is unlike any Kinect game you may have played previously. There are no minigames, forced gestures, or end of level photos of you in your underwear here. You can play it sitting down, which is great if you just want to play and relax rather than burn crazy calories. Most importantly, you can aim and move with precision not seen in any of the Kinect launch titles, and with a speed and feel that’s just not possible with a traditional controller.
Over the next few weeks and months, the Gunstringer team will be updating this blog with news, development insights, reveals, and other cool stuff that’s going on during the development of The Gunstringer. We’re all really excited to be able to finally talk about the game, and we can’t wait for you to find out more!”
We’ll bring you more information as and when we recieve it, and you can keep up to date via the Twisted Pixel blog for the game! For now though, just enjoy this trailer!
